La Palma

The island is a well cherished treasure among eco-tourists and still largely unspoiled (in contrast to some of the other islands). It’s an outdoor playground.

Hiking Hotspot

La Palma is an internationally renowned hiking destination. Especially popular is Caldera de Taburiente National Park, which is only accessible on foot. The island is one of the steepest of the Canary Islands, which allows for beautiful lookout points.

World-class Astronomy

The peaks of the volcano are home to several international observatories, located on La Palma because of the excellent night-sky clarity. Stargazing conditions on the island are fantastic, even at sea level. There are special laws throughout the cities that limit the street lights during night. You have to see the incredible darkness around Spiral Studios after dusk.

Pristine Volcanic Beaches

There are many beautiful beaches on La Palma made from black volcanic sand, which gives them a very unique appearance and texture. The deep-blue Atlantic water conditions are pleasant and relatively warm all-year round.

Diving

Somewhat popular on the island is diving excursions, where you can go off-shore and see manta rays and dolphins almost year-round.

Cycling

Many cyclists visit La Palma to practice for the Tour-de-France, because of the relatively challenging routes and wonderful weather year-long. There are also great opportunities for mountain biking.

Ocean Sightseeing (Whales, Dolphins)

Dolphin and whale-watching tours can be organized from many points on the island, and it makes a wonderful day trip.

Gastronomy

Canarian food is distinct from mainland Spain, with award-winning wines and cheeses. Sample local dishes such as Papas Arrugadas Con Mojo Picon.
