Imagine an ocean view, 1000 feet high, a small island with more space then any land can hold. Imagine the lush of spring 365 days a year, summer days cooling down at night. Imagine a silence you hardly find, crickets under a cosmic night sky. Imagine a place that makes your creativity go wild. A place where artist can reside, compose & record their music all in the same magical place guarded by a majestic dragon tree… Well that place exists. I’m talking about the Spiral Studios at Finca de La Sombra del Drago on La Palma (Isla Bonita in the Canaries). The life dream of Buszjan who nurtured, protected and cherished it for many years so we can now all pick the sweet fruits of it!

I first met Jan van Reeth at the beginning of 2015, when I arrived in La Palma, where he is well-established as a musician and recording engineer. It was in the latter capacity that he then assisted me in equipping an outdoor stage that I was having built on my land in Roque del Faro, Garafía, using his knowledge and experience to help me acquire a full sound and lighting system. He then assumed the role of live sound and recording engineer for the various music events that have since been produced here.

As our working relationship developed, he began to outline his ambitious plans for the design and construction of a state-of-the-art recording studio an artistic retreat on his land at Cueva de Agua, I was in a position to assist him in this respect and I decided to invest.
It is fair to say that this was not simply a business decision. Our association together had by this time developed into a friendship, based on mutual respect and trust, and I was sufficiently excited by his vision and determination to create something of practical value in this remote and beautiful setting to want to be a part of it. If you are in a position to do so, I would urge you to join us in this venture.
You will not be disappointed.

For over a period of 15 years I have worked with Jan Van Reeth, recording engineer on 4 albums with different projects. Mainly New Orleans traditional jazz like the Old Fish Jazzband, Cyclowncircus, and El Hombre Orquesta.

We were always looking to produce a natural kind of ‘old time’ sound that is typical to this style of music.
Jan was well equipped, keen and experienced to work with us on this particular research. He was flexible, communicative and open to trying different creative ways to make our sound warm, fat and full.
Particularly El Hombre Orquesta, where I produce the sound of a 6 piece jazz band by playing all the different instruments myself, was a real recording and editing challenge. The end result is there to show: a great sounding 9 track album! Recorded, mixed and mastered by Jan in Spiralstudios La Palma.
